146. 끊임없이 불타고 있는데
무엇이 우습고 무엇이 기쁠까?
어둠에 싸인 체 그대들은
어찌 등불을 찾지 않는가?
Ko nu hāso kimānando niccaṃ pajjalite sati
Andhakārena onaddhā padīpaṃ na gavesatha.
When this world is ever ablaze,
why this laughter, why this jubilation?
Shrouded in darkness,
will you not see the light?
147. 상처의 무더기로 이루어진
마음이 지은 형상을 보아라!
병 들어 많은 생각을 하지만
몸은 영원히 지속되지 않는다.
Passa cittakataṃ bimbaṃ arukāyaṃ samussitaṃ
Āturaṃ bahusaṅkappaṃ yassa natthi dhuvaṃ ṭhiti.
Behold this body—a painted image,
a mass of heaped up sores, infirm, full of hankering—
of which nothing is lasting or stable!
148. 낡은 몸은 병의 둥지로
쉬이 부서진다.
썩은 몸뚱이는 흩어지고
삶은 죽음으로 끝이 난다.
Parijiṇṇamidaṃ rūpaṃ roganiḍḍhaṃ pabhaṅguraṃ
Bhijjati pūtisandeho maraṇantañhi jīvitaṃ.
Fully worn out is this body,
a nest of disease, and fragile.
This foul mass breaks up,
for death is the end of life.
149. 여기저기 버려진
가을의 조롱박 같은
재색의 뼈들!
이를 보고 어찌 애착이 있을까?
Yānimāni apatthāni alāpūn’ eva sārade
Kāpotakāni aṭṭhīni tāni disvāna kā rati.
These dove-colored bones are
like gourds that lie scattered about in autumn.
Having seen them,
how can one seek delight?
150. 뼈에 살과
피를 발라 만든 성.
거기 늙음과 죽음,
자만과 위선이 놓여있다.
Aṭṭhīnaṃ nagaraṃ kataṃ maṃsalohitalepanaṃ
Yattha jarā ca maccu ca māno makkho ca ohito.
This city (body) is built of bones,
plastered with flesh and blood;
within are decay and death,
pride and jealousy.
151. 화려한 왕의 마차들도 낡아지고
육신 또한 늙어가지만
진실한 가르침은 늙지 않아
진실한 이들이, 진실한 이들을 위해 알게 한다.
Jīranti ve rājarathā sucittā atho sarīrampi jaraṃ upeti
Satañ ca dhammo na jaraṃ upeti santo have sabbhi pavedayanti.
Even gorgeous royal chariots wear out,
and indeed this body too wears out.
But the Dhamma of the Good does not age;
thus the Good make it known to the good.
152. 배움이 적은 사람은
소처럼 늙어가니
그에게 살은 늘어 나지만
지혜는 늘어 나지 않는다.
Appassutāyaṃ puriso balivaddo va jīrati
Maṃsāni tassa vaḍḍhanti paññā tassa na vaḍḍhati.
The man of little learning
grows old like a bull.
He grows only in bulk,
but, his wisdom does not grow.
153. 윤회의 수많은 생을
떠돌았으나 찾지 못했다.
집을 짓는 자를 찾으려 하나
고통스러운 삶이 반복될 뿐이다.
Anekajātisaṃsāraṃ sandhāvissaṃ anibbisaṃ
Gahakārakaṃ gavesanto dukkhā jāti punappunaṃ.
Through many a birth in samsara
have I wandered in vain,
seeking the builder of this house (of life).
Repeated birth is indeed suffering!
154. 집을 짓는 자여! 네가 보이므로
너는 다시 집을 짓지 못할 것이다.
너의 모든 서까래가 부러졌고
집의 용마루도 부서졌다.
짓고 일어남이 사라진 마음은
갈애의 소멸을 얻었다.
Gahakāraka diṭṭhosi puna gehaṃ na kāhasi
Sabbā te phāsukā bhaggā gahakūṭaṃ visaṅkhataṃ
Visaṅkhāragataṃ cittaṃ taṇhānaṃ khayamajjhagā.
O house-builder, you are seen!
You will not build this house again.
For your rafters are broken
and your ridgepole shattered.
My mind has reached the Unconditioned;
I have attained the destruction of craving.
155. 성스러운 삶을 살지도 못하고
젊어서 재산도 얻지 못한 자들은
물고기 없는 작은 연못의
늙은 왜가리처럼 쇠약해 간다.
Acaritvā brahmacariyaṃ aladdhā yobbane dhanaṃ
Jiṇṇakoñcāva jhāyanti khīṇamacche va pallale.
Those who in youth have not led the holy life,
or have failed to acquire wealth,
languish like old cranes in the pond without fish.
156. 성스러운 삶을 살지도 못하고
젊어서 재산도 얻지 못한 자들은
활에서 날아간 화살처럼
지난 일들을 슬퍼하며 누워있다.
Acaritvā brahmacariyaṃ aladdhā yobbane dhanaṃ
Senti cāpātikhīṇā va purāṇāni anutthunaṃ.
Those who in youth have not lead the holy life,
or have failed to acquire wealth,
lie sighing over the past,
like worn out arrows (shot from) a bow.
