90. 여행을 마치고 슬픔이 사라져 

모든 곳에서 자유로워

온갖 속박을 벗어난 이에게 

고뇌가 있지 않다. 

Gataddhino visokassa vippamuttassa sabbadhi 

Sabbaganthappahīnassa pariḷāho na vijjati.

The fever of passion exists not for him 

who has completed the journey, 

who is sorrowless and wholly set free, 

and has broken all ties.

90. 여행을 마치고 슬픔이 사라져 

모든 곳에서 자유로워

온갖 속박을 벗어난 이에게 

고뇌가 있지 않다.

Sabbaganthappahīnassa pariḷāho na vijjati.

The fever of passion exists not for him 

who has completed the journey, 

who is sorrowless and wholly set free,

91. 깨어 바라보는 이들은 가정에서 

기쁨을 찾지 못하고 떠난다. 

백조가 작은 연못을 뒤로하듯 

그들은 집과 집을 버리고 떠난다. 

Uyyuñjanti satīmanto na nikete ramanti te 

Haṃsāva pallalaṃ hitvā okamokaṃ jahanti te.

The mindful ones exert themselves. 

They are not attached to any home; 

like swans that abandon the lake, 

they leave home after home behind.

92. 그들은 모아둠이 없고 

먹는 것을 잘 이해하며

텅 비어 고착된 생각이 사라진 

자유의 영역에 머물기에

허공의 새들과 같이 

그들이 간 곳을 찾기 어렵다. 

Yesaṃ sannicayo natthi ye pariññātabhojanā 

Suññato animitto ca vimokkho yesaṃ gocaro 

Ākāse va sakuntānaṃ gati tesaṃ durannayā.

Those who do not accumulate 

and are wise regarding food, 

whose object is the Void, 

the Unconditioned Freedom—

their track cannot be traced, 

like that of birds in the air.

93. 여러 번뇌를 없애고 

먹을 것에 집착하지 않으며

텅 비어 고착된 생각이 사라진 

자유의 영역에 머물기에

허공의 새들과 같이

그의 자취를 찾기 어렵다. 

Yassāsavā parikkhīṇā āhāre ca anissito 

Suññato animitto ca vimokkho yassa gocaro 

Ākāse va sakuntānaṃ padaṃ tassa durannayaṃ.

He whose cankers are destroyed 

and who is not attached to food, 

whose object is the Void, the Unconditioned Freedom—

his path cannot be traced, 

like that of birds in the air.

94. 마부가 잘 길들인 말들처럼 

모든 감각이 고요하고

교만을 버려 번뇌가 사라진 이의

그 모습을 신들조차 부러워한다.

Yassindriyāni samathaṃ gatāni assā yathā sārathinā sudantā 

Pahīnamānassa anāsavassa devāpi tassa pihayanti tādino.

Even the gods hold dear the wise one, 

whose senses are subdued 

like horses well trained by a charioteer, 

whose pride is destroyed and who is free from the cankers.

95. 땅과 같이 남들과 다투지 않고 

제석천왕의 기둥처럼 실천이 굳건하여

진흙이 사라진 호수처럼

그러한 이들에게 윤회가 사라진다.

Pathavisamo no virujjhati indakhīlūpamo tādi subbato 

Rahadova apetakaddamo saṃsārā na bhavanti tādino.

There is no more worldly existence 

for the wise one who, like the earth, 

resents nothing, who is firm as a high pillar 

and as pure as a deep pool free from mud.

* 제석천왕은  고대 인도에서 인간을 보호하는 신으로 여겨져, 사람들은 제석천왕을 상징하는 기둥을 마을의 입구에 튼튼히 세웠다 한다. 

96. 바른 앎으로 완전한 자유와 

완전한 고요함을 이루어

그 마음이 고요하고 

말과 행동 또한 고요하다. 

Santaṃ tassa manaṃ hoti santā vācā ca kamma ca 

Sammadaññā vimuttassa upasantassa tādino.

Calm is his thought, calm his speech, 

and calm his deed, who, truly knowing, 

is wholly freed, perfectly tranquil and wise.

97. 지어지지 않은 열반을 알아 

믿음을 여의고 윤회의 연결을 끊은 사람은

열망을 토해내고 생의 기회를 죽인 

참으로 최고의 장부가 된다. 

Assaddho akataññū ca sandhicchedo ca yo naro 

Hatāvakāso vantāso sa ve uttamaporiso.

The man who is without blind faith, 

who knows the Uncreated, who has severed all links, 

destroyed all causes (for karma, good and evil), 

and thrown out all desires—he, truly, is the most excellent of men.

98. 마을이든 숲이든 

낮은 곳이든 높은 곳이든 

아라한들이 머무는 곳

그 땅이 즐거운 곳이다.  

Gāme vā yadi vāraññe ninne vā yadi vā thale 

Yattha arahanto viharanti taṃ bhūmirāmaṇeyyakaṃ.

Inspiring, indeed, is that place 

where Arahants dwell, 

be it a village, a forest, 

a vale, or a hill.

* 아라한은 ‘공양받을 자격이 있는 존재’라는 뜻으로 완전한 깨달음을 얻은 부처님을 가리키는 여러 이름 중 하나이다. 또한 부처님의 가르침 아래에서 깨달음을 이룬 부처님의 제자들을 가리킨다. 

99. 숲은 즐거운 곳이지만 

거기서 사람은 즐거움을 찾지 못한다.  

거기서 갈망을 버린 이들은 즐거우나 

욕망을 쫓는 자들은 그렇지 않다.  

Ramaṇīyāni araññāni yattha na ramatī jano 

Vītarāgā ramissanti na te kāmagavesino.

Inspiring are the forests 

in which worldlings find no pleasure. 

There the passionless will rejoice, 

for they seek no sensual pleasures.

90. 여행을 마치고 슬픔이 사라져

91. 깨어 바라보는 이들은 가정에서 

기쁨을 찾지 못하고 떠난다.

Vītarāgā ramissanti na te kāmagavesino.
